These are the main kinds of animals seen in the island chain.
Island Wolves-The dominant land species, with the most diverse range of magic. The original group might have been a group of gray wolves, Canis lupus, but these wolves have evolved enough to be considered a separate species, Canis lupus pacificus. Aside from their magic-given adaptations, island wolves have smaller bodies, thinner coats, and webbed paws to allow ease in swimming.
Sea Eagles-These, next to saltwater crocodiles, are the biggest threat to the wolves. Aggressive, proud, and strong, the eagles nevertheless often squabble amongst themselves and have never been able to fully unite. Their magic lies in manipulating wind, making them the best fliers in the islands by far.
Island Foxes-These clever, cat-sized carnivores have more or less established peace with the wolves. They stay out of the way, and the wolves do not attack them. Sometimes, one might steal a bit of food, but nobody minds unless food is extremely short, because they have such useful magic. If a fox wants to find something or someone, they immediately know where it is, so long as they have seen it before or had it described to them. Mates use this to keep track of their partner and pups. If a wolf needs to locate a lost child or an herb, a fox is usually willing to help. All animals speak different tongues, but since both foxes and wolves are canines, a pidgin language has been developed between the two.
Saltwater Crocodile-These predators tend to stay in the swampy areas, although sometimes they may hunt in the reefs or the beach. They tend to range 11-20 ft, with males much bigger than females. They prey on anything they can catch, including wolves. Their magic lies in being able to stay under indefinitely, pulling oxygen from the water through magic. If you get caught, you're unlikely to survive, and even if you do you'll almost certainly be missing a limb.
Deer-The most common prey of the wolves. Deer roam in small herds or alone, and can be found in the plains or the forested areas. They can put on short bursts of speed to outpace a wolf pack, although they cannot do this frequently. They are quick-thinking but flighty.
Jungle boar-Rarely found anywhere outside the rainforests, jungle boars are strong prey. Unless you're hunting in a team, or are a champion hunter, going after them is dangerous. They can manipulate earth, so beware of rocks flying at your head.
Water Buffalo-Typically keeping to the marshes or plains, these buffalo live in small, close-knit herds. Difficult prey to catch, but they can feed a wolf for a long time. Their magic is similar to the deer's, being able to run very fast in short bursts. They are the principle prey of salties.
Mice-These little white mice are common to any areas with dunes, where there is vegetation for them. A mouse is only a mouthful for a grown wolf, but they make good prey for first-time hunters. They can leap extremely high with their magic, and some adults find it humorous to watch a youngster chase after a bouncing rodent.
Rabbits-They live in the same habitat as mice, but can also be found in the plains. They are fast creatures, but their magic lies in being to change their fur color to camouflage themselves. Keen eyes are required for rabbit hunting.
blackfangs-Imagine a boa constrictor big enough to swallow a wolf, with a charcoal-on-black coloring. Blackfangs are deep forest predators rarely seen anywhere except Wild Island. They can swim, however, and are so dangerous that when one is sighted anywhere off Wild Island a hunt is usually called up to kill it. They have no magic, but perhaps that's a good thing.
dolphins-Both Short-Beaked Common and Bottlenose dolphins have been seen in the waters surrounding the islands. Friendly and inquisitive, they are no danger to adults or pups provided they are left alone as well. A swimming wolf may find themselves escorted by a curious pod.
Fish-Fishies! Multiple kinds of fish are found swimming between the islands. Minnow dart through the shallows, and brightly-colored tropical fish are found ion the reefs. Good luck trying to catch any, though.
Tiger Sharks-These large sharks are rarely seen during the daytime, but at night they enter the shallows to feed. Unless you want to become chum, it's best to stay on land at night.
other sea creatures-Crabs, green sea turtles, and seabirds are also found all over the islands.
